Are there other options for newborn photography in Taipei besides a posed photoshoot?

The answer is yes, but I don’t know of anyone else offering documentary newborn photography sessions in Taipei besides me (as of 2026 when I’m writing this post). Most newborn photography in Taiwan is the kind where the baby is wrapped up like a ball and surrounded by cutesy props (this is popular in hospitals and postpartum centers), a posed photoshoot in a studio, or maybe a lifestyle newborn photography session in someone’s home (still guided and posed, but meant to look more natural).

I used to think that surely there were at least a few other newborn photographers that captured candid, storytelling moments of adjusting to life with a new baby. However, I was recently contacted by someone giving birth in Kaohsiung that couldn’t find a single photographer who did newborn photography sessions without baby-wrapping and props. I thought surely this isn’t the case, but lo and behold, I did a search and also couldn’t find anyone. I still think there must be a photographer in South Taiwan that can do newborn photography with a more natural approach, but they sure aren’t easy to find.

I don’t know enough about business and the economy to know whether newborn photography in Taiwan is reflecting people’s taste or shaping it, and yes, I know I could have a lot more work if I provided a service that the majority of people seem to want (i.e., posed newborn photos), but I’ve long known that I create my best work when I follow my heart and vision. I am a true believer in documentary photography for families. I truly believe that the photos of the baby crying, a dad with spitup on his shirt tiredly rubbing his eyes, and a mom trying to eat lunch while their baby is attached to them like a barnacle will be some of the most important, meaningful photos in a family’s archive as the years go by. Images like this are the beating heart of a family’s story, and it’s my honor to document them.

The photos below are from a recent documentary newborn session in Taipei. I also documented the birth of this little one, so it was especially fun to photograph the next chapter of life when they were settling in at home.
