A Mother-Daughter Documentary Family Photography Session in Taipei

One of my favorite things about being a documentary family photographer is getting an inside look at the unique culture in every home. Going to someone’s home is like being welcomed into a small country with its own customs and language. And every family looks a little bit different, yet also the same, if that makes sense. The makeup of the family may vary but everyone is doing their best. Everyone that I’ve worked with loves their kids and is working hard to balance their children’s happiness with the daily grind of keeping them alive and thriving. It’s interesting to see how people may approach this mission differently, yet that’s basically what we’re all doing.

I consider it a special honor to photograph single parents living out this mission. Most of them are insanely busy with having to work and be the sole caretaker of their child; there usually isn’t another adult around to take photos of them with their kid. I want to make sure that they have some photos to look back on with them in the picture. I want them to see how hard they work, how much they love and are loved. The following are some favorite photos from a session with Kristen and her daughter. I still remember how much they laughed together!
